Review: FRENCH ESSENTIALS includes all the important elements of learning a second language - listening, speaking, reading and writing.  And it is laid out in a way that makes sense to the student, getting them thoroughly familiar with spoken French, but also building a usable vocabulary, with English translations so the children are not trying to "deduce" the meaning  of words (which they will often guess incorrectly!)  The students KNOW what they are saying and writing, and this is extremely important in building confidence in a second language. My girls have not learned any French at all before this year and they are enjoying and retaining what they are learning. I   believe this is because of the multisensory approach.  No matter whether the child is a visual, audio, or kinesthetic learner, this program provides for their needs.  Their main learning style is fed and then reinforced by the other activities.  For instance, my 13 year old is very much a visual learner, so seeing the people on the video is what teaches her best, however.
